Background graphics for a horse browser game

For EquinePassion, I recreated the game's oldest background artwork as part of a freelance commission: twelve landscapes, each in a day and a night variant. The commission was part of a larger redesign of the game.
Requirement
The existing backgrounds dated from an early phase of the game and no longer matched the rest of its, by now considerably more advanced, art style. The goal was to bring the image quality up to the current standard without losing the recognizability of each landscape — players needed to still recognize the familiar motifs.
Approach
When reworking the artwork, I deliberately stayed close to the original compositions of each landscape. That wasn't a necessity, it was a decision: a complete recomposition would have offered more creative freedom, but it would have cut the direct link to the older versions. What stayed the same was the core idea and recognizability of each landscape; what grew was technique, lighting, and level of detail.
Result
The twelve reworked landscapes are part of EquinePassion's visual modernization and now a fixed part of the game. The direct comparison between old and new versions also makes visible how composition, lighting, and technical execution developed over several years — a side effect that reaches beyond the commission itself.
